The “Ugly Head Jig” is a uniquely designed lead head casting jig. It was specifically designed for catching small mouth bass using light
line in the cool, clear waters of East Tennessee reservoirs and streams. It has been fished by many fishermen of East Tennessee,
such as Nathan Light of 3B Outdoors Pro Staff @ www.3BOutdoors.com. Over the past several years, the “Ugly Head Jig” has provided
some great fishing results.
The “Ugly Head Jig” is only one of many excellent jigs designed and produced by tackle manufacturers in this great state of Tennessee.
However, we love to fish the “Ugly Head Jig” because of the great results we have had fishing it.
The “Ugly Head Jig” will also produce catches of largemouth bass, white bass or stripes, hybrids, crappie, bluegills, and rainbow trout.
The jig comes in two sizes and several color combinations.
Since the development of the original “Ugly Head Jig”, I have designed a few more jig heads that were all inspired by the original “Ugly
Head Jig”. One in particular is the new “Baby Ugly Head Jig”, in which I have had great success. It is smaller and more suited for the
bobber fishing.
Enough said about the “Ugly Head Jig”. Hope you enjoy the web site and start fishing some of the Ugly Head Jigs in the future! Thanks.

A little background...
The ugly head jig was designed and developed several years ago. Nathan Light and I had discussed many times about how great it
would be to have some type of light-weight jig to “tight-line” or “bobber” fish. It needed to be balanced so that when hung under a
bobber, it would hang perfectly horizontal, just like a natural minnow. It also needed to hang horizontal when being fished using the
“tight-line” method. Castability of the lure was also a factor in its design, seeing how it would be fished on those cold, windy days. And in
East Tennessee, there are many great cold weather lakes near us, such as South Holston, Watauga, Boone, Fort Patrick Henry, and
Cherokee. And best of all, they are all loaded with our favorite target, the small mouth bass.
So one evening, I took an old aluminum jig mold, drew out a jig head design on the mold, and ground it out using my Dremmel tool. I
fired up the lead pot and poured a few experimental jig heads. They had a unique design, but they did not hang properly when tied on.
After a few more alterations to the mold, the final design was made. I cast a few more jig heads and tied them up using duck
feathers/chartreuse neck hackles.
The next day, I gave Nathan several of the jig heads to tie up and test. His response to the design of the jig head was “that is one ugly jig
head” and the name ugly head jig stuck with it. Nathan and I fished the jig for several years in secrecy, trying out the “Ugly Head Jig” and
monitoring its results. The best day that I had using the new “Ugly Head Jig” was in the month of February on Boone reservoir. That cold
morning, I landed twenty-seven bass, with seventeen of them over the fifteen inch size limit. And all of that action was by 2:00PM that
afternoon. After many other successful fishing trips using the “Ugly Head Jig”, we declared the “Ugly Head Jig” design a success.
Nathan has had great success fishing the “Ugly Head Jig”, and is an expert in the art of “tight lining” the jig for big small mouth bass.
Using this method, he consistently catches limits of big small mouth bass. As a result of his success using this method, he has
developed and produced a DVD, specifically showing you how to use “tight line” method to catch big small mouth bass.
